Highlights

[9:25] Mango's route in: anime, Nagasaki, and a project that lost its founders. Mango studied animation in Japan (two years in Nagasaki, two in Korea), which put him in Asia exactly as "cute IP" started flooding Western timelines. He and Yummy met in 2022 as big holders in Froggy Friends — whose original founders left the day after mint, leaving the community to rebuild it. Yummy took art, Mango took community management. Three years of on-the-job web3 training, unplanned.

[11:39] Yummy's other job. Thirty-plus years of line art and digital work, Disney and TMNT as childhood fuel — and a day job as a surgeon running multiple clinics. Drawing time is one to two in the morning; spaces time is between patients. Mango scouted him off a Sappy Seals art-contest derivative.

[14:40] The Osaka accelerator. April–June 2025, roughly nine weeks in what Mango described as the first government-sponsored web3 accelerator in Osaka, running during the World Expo. They pitched a lifestyle brand — Wagyu Brands — and got advisors who could tell them whether their Japanese-inspired characters actually landed in that market, rather than guessing from abroad.

[21:29] The bar in Osaka. Yummy handed out embroidered patches of the Macarune face in a ten-person alley bar. A man in his seventies took one in both hands and stared into it for half an hour, his wife hugging him from the side. Then a tap on the shoulder: he pointed at the face and claimed it as his own. Mango's brother translated the concept — everyone picks one character as their outward self, their kyara. "Japan literally breathed life into this character," Yummy said [24:14], adding that he can't quite take full credit for it.

[33:17] The part that genuinely shocked him. Because everyone in Japan grows up tracing kanji and doing calligraphy, the bar patrons assumed Yummy was a fan who liked drawing the character. When the translation finally landed that he'd invented it, the room's reaction changed completely — original character creators, he learned, are not the people you meet in dirty little alley bars.

[38:02] East vs West, and why hats. Yummy's framing: Western characters say "look at me, here I am," while the kyara vibe is "take me with you." He deliberately refused to hand over a blueprint of what a Macarune is — the core face stays fixed, the hats and traits are a costume you change. Hence the obsession with hats: the most portable, instantly recognisable way to carry your PFP into real life, already prototyped in 2D and 3D [40:41]. Super connected it to his own trouble explaining LT3 to people: some brands you have to feel rather than define [56:12].

[44:56] The 6-7 trait, explained under duress. Yummy pre-apologised for a "6 7" trait in the collection: it was his kids' non-negotiable contribution, on pain of murder. "You're welcome." Super's ruling from the co-host chair: "You don't need to apologize for that, Twin" [46:33].

[47:45] No over-allocation, no alpha groups. Yummy said guaranteed means guaranteed — no 2,000 "guaranteed" spots quietly padded with 10,000 more — and that he deliberately skipped the KOL and alpha-group circuit despite being in plenty of them, inviting people he actually knows instead [53:10]. Delivered in full deadpan: as a learned doctor of biology and zoology, he found it very obvious this is a walrus, and requested assurance that nobody will announce years later that Macarune is actually a person — an injury he has still not recovered from with Hello Kitty. Yummy, an actual doctor, confirmed he will not be popping out of a Macarune cake as a human, and explained that the tail is the one anatomical liberty he took, since he couldn't bring himself to publish an anatomically incorrect walrus [1:01:52].

[1:22:38] The nitty-gritty. 2,000 supply on purpose ("managing 10,000 people is a little harder"), 0.015 ETH after polling friends who mostly said go higher, a three-hour guaranteed window rather than a 15-minute scramble, 2 per wallet on GTD and 5 on FCFS, OpenSea featured with a retweet expected. Sho added that the price wasn't decided in a vacuum — the room's consensus was "don't do free," specifically to keep bots out [1:24:57]. Gm walked through his own habit of typing the contract address himself and checking it in chat before minting anything [1:32:51].
