Re:Envisioning Web3 | Who is Behind the PFP?
Host: Lyss (@Lysss302), with co-hosts Jed (@jed_131), SLICK RIC (@richj530) and Woof (@WoofArmyXX) Β· Sat 29 Aug 2026 Β· 2:40:42 Β· ~20 active speakers
TL;DR
- The Saturday "Who is Behind the PFP?" edition β less about tokens, more about the humans wearing them β running hot on hype for NFT NYC week and the De Stefano's steakhouse meetups in Williamsburg.
- Celeste delivered the emotional centerpiece: the story of losing her father and grandfather and why her PFP chose her.
- Uncle Corvus laid out his anti-child-trafficking mission and Blackfeather lifestyle ecosystem; Mike and Jobu (Cole) added veteran- and awareness-focused threads.
- Recurring gospel of the room: don't shill, build "founder-forward," let people know you first and the support follows.
- Announcements: a "respaces" video network in the works, CEELOS's rebuilding together AI-prompt space bumped to 3:30, and a running plan to turn Astro's "regens on top" closing into an actual EDM track.
- X (the app) glitched all afternoon β speakers kept getting silently un-mic'd β and everyone rolled with it.
Highlights
[16:50] Live from the barber chair. McFly joined mid-haircut, prompting Jed's deadpan on effort: "These quarterbacks make 300 mil, man. I show up for free." The barbershop bit ran for a good stretch, Lyss insisting a fresh cut is non-negotiable New York culture before an IRL week.
[19:44] The pixie-joke armistice. Jed needled McFly to skip the salon and come get a "real" haircut; McFly held the line β "my braids are gonna be the same, so the pixie joke stops here" β then ANTI capped it with a barbershop tale of the whole place pausing his cut when the croquettes arrived, music and dancing included.
[45:17] Regens on top, the club edit. A throwaway idea snowballed into a full marketing conspiracy: turn Astro's closing into an EDM drop, play it at the exact same time every night so circadian rhythms "subconsciously implant" it, and quietly feed crypto to unsuspecting dancers from the Jersey Shore to a Bills bar in Rome. ANTI: "right before the very first drop, regens on top β I lose my mind." Lyss was fully on board.
[52:33] Celeste and the PFP that chose her. The most vulnerable stretch of the space. Celeste recounted losing her father to cancer at ten, being raised by her grandfather, then getting the call that he'd died while she was thousands of miles away on a new job. She tied it to a Harry Potter beat about the thestrals β that loss lets you see things others can't β and to how her PFP felt like her own story looking back at her. Lyss and Slick both thanked her for going there.
[1:05:20] Jed doubles down on the darkness. Building on Celeste, Jed shared that "all the best things that happened to me in life came from the worst," and reminded the room you often can't see why something happened until much later.
[1:22:05] Uncle Corvus's mission. "Thunder from down under" turned a coffee-and-water intro into his real purpose: funding raids to rescue trafficked children through Destiny Rescue, and building the Blackfeather ecosystem of 30-day challenges where fees go to that cause. "Knowledge is power, but it isn't power until it's applied."
[1:33:24] Mike's Buffalo memory + Skynet PSA. Mike recalled visiting a rehabilitation house for trafficking survivors on the TorontoβBuffalo corridor while lecturing there β sparked entirely by Corvus's segment β before pivoting to a dry warning to all the builders in the room that "29 years ago today" Skynet became self-aware, so mind what you build.
[1:50:56] The no-shill ethos. Jed and Slick spent real time on how the room actually works: nobody shows regens, you build founder-forward, get to know people as people first β and the loyal onboards stick. Slick's version: "I don't buy the pictures, I buy the people."
[2:10:58] "Web three steakhouse of the WORLD." Astro dropped his signature closing β "this space is sponsored by De Stefano'sβ¦ regions on top" β and Slick immediately issued his one correction: it's no longer the steakhouse of New York or Brooklyn, "we are of the world." Jed conceded and updated the tagline.
[2:37:37] Roasting Jed on the way out. Lyss quietly removed Jed from the space to send him off to his haircut ("get a clear head"), then played Piff's troll song about him β "that's not your uncle, that's Jedi Gotti" β closing on the loudest, warmest note of the day over her own reflection on showing up on the bad days.
