MIMU Sniper Sunday — Episode 21
Host: Bert (@bert_baccaratt) with cohosts HYPE (@morethenhype) & Joubrel (@iamMRJOUBREL) · Date: 24 Aug 2026 (Sniper Sunday ep. 21) · Duration: 2:41:49 · ~18 speakers
TL;DR
- The weekly Mimu-on-Ape sniping session hit its 21st episode ("legal of age"), running its usual format: hunt traits on the floor, admire combos, giveaways.
- HYPE launched a one-night "buy two Mimus, get one free" campaign (until midnight ET), stacking on top of ongoing sweeps that enter buyers to win two G's on Apes and a MAYC (drawn Sept 30).
- Mikey (@Mikey_Thereum) was formally welcomed to the team to build out the Mimu world in Unreal Engine / ODK — five phases, four biomes (molten, glacia, veldon, bone), token-gated trait areas, and a much-discussed "naked beach."
- Thrill (@ThrillsOnHood) walked through his weekend project launch hiccup: people sent mainnet ETH to a paused Robinhood contract; he swept and refunded ~$3,000 and left the mint paused.
- The show's headline moment: Gary Vaynerchuk dropped in for a ~25-minute monologue on how early NFTs still are, abundance vs. scarcity mindset, VFriends, and kindness.
- Plenty of music-and-banter filler: Grace sang, Bert DJ'd, and a running beanie-gang-vs-flip-brim bit refused to die.
Highlights
[1:33] Twenty-one episodes deep. Bert and HYPE open by noting the Space is "legal of age" at episode 21, then get straight to the week's activations.
[2:53]–[3:33] The one-night campaign. HYPE announces a limited buy-two-get-one-free Mimu deal running only until 11:59 PM ET, framed as better odds for the MAYC and two-G's drawings. Buyers are told to open a Discord ticket with their transaction hash to claim the free one.
[7:59]–[9:26] The Mimu world thesis. HYPE lays out the build with Mikey: four world quadrants (molten, glacia, veldon, bone) plus a main hub, token-gated ("trait-gated") areas, and traits worth chasing — nakeds, gold, molten, veldon, flip rims, beanies, halos.
[10:57] The lore war. HYPE reveals he's writing a "lore bible" in which the memus go to war with the kodas — a bit that lands extra well given Mikey, the world's builder, is wearing a koda PFP. "Everything we stand upon has been built by one," Bert deadpans [39:40].
[14:15] Thrill's backdoor. Thrill recounts his rough mint: people connected the wrong network and sent mainnet ETH to a future nonce on his deployer wallet. He describes sending himself 20 zero-dollar transactions to reach the right contract, sweeping the ETH, and scripting refunds. Mint stays paused; he'll patch and re-release [2:38:00].
[22:07]–[27:25] Welcoming Mikey. Mikey joins (kids in the background all night) and talks world-building — ~60–70 hours into his current mine, ODK migration, and pulling actual Mimu traits (shirts, skull heads, brims) into the world as collectible in-game items.
[47:45]–[48:36] Naked beach & token-gated traits. The brainstorm goes fully off the rails — a token-gated "naked beach" (Bert: "so we can all just go and relax and show our sexy bodies off"), a black-light cave to make Mimus glow, laser tag with the ray-gun belt trait, and a "one-by-one plot" gag about a Burger King parking lot where the flip rims hang out.
[1:17:24]–[1:22:00] Grace sings. APESister Grace performs "Jasmine Flower" (Molihua) in both English and Mandarin, explaining its roots in Puccini's opera and its meaning in China.
[1:38:58]–[2:07:18] Gary Vee arrives — the show's headliner. Lured by the room's running "come smoke a blunt with us" campaign, Gary Vaynerchuk drops in and delivers the show's marquee moment: a long, high-energy monologue. His throughline is that NFTs are still absurdly early — "it's 1978 in comic book land and NFT land" — and that the space needs an abundance mindset in place of envy and scarcity. He credits HYPE as the one human who onboarded a "shocking percentage" of people who went on to do real things in the space, and the two trade origin-story history back to the 2021 Clubhouse days. He frames VFriends as a marathon ("your grandchildren are gonna wear VFriends pajamas"), calls the day you can buy an NFT with Apple Pay the reset moment, closes on kindness as the thing that "fucking wins in the end," and opens his DMs to the room.
[1:55:07] The VFriends poll. Gary asks anyone without a series-one or -two VFriend to hit the 100% emoji — and cheerfully notes basically the entire speaker panel doesn't own one, before several (Mikey, Thrill, BHarry) grab or eye one during the Space.

Notable quotes
"I'm opening up the front door for Robinhood users, and you know, motherfuckers just went around back and came in through the back door of Ethereum, you know, which I should have locked. That's on me." — Thrill [14:15]
"It's 1978 in comic book land and NFT land… when all those fuckers [said] 'we made it,' 99.9% of the world thought they were a bunch of fucking nerds. And that's squarely where we're all at right now with NFTs." — Gary Vaynerchuk [1:44:48]
"A shocking percentage of the people that went on to do real shit in this space got onboarded by one human being. This motherfucker that's on the call right now." — Gary Vaynerchuk, on HYPE [1:45:28]
"If this fucking collective universe of NFT collectors could actually get their envy and jealousy and scarcity mindset out of their body and actually cheer a little bit for everybody else, we would be in a much, much better place." — Gary Vaynerchuk [1:47:14]
"Every one of you fuckers' grandchildren are gonna wear VFriends pajamas to go to sleep." — Gary Vaynerchuk [2:03:00]
"The fact that we have to hedge kindness is an insight that everybody needs to wrap their head around… kindness fucking wins in the end." — Gary Vaynerchuk [2:05:05]
Who said what
- Bert (@bert_baccaratt, host): ran the room, live-called snipes, kept the "we should all be concerned" and "hold my hand" bits going, and MC'd the giveaways.
- HYPE (@morethenhype, cohost/founder): the strategist — launched the buy-2-get-1 deal, laid out the Mimu world thesis, trait picks, and the koda-vs-memu lore, and lured Gary in.
- Mikey (@Mikey_Thereum): newly announced world-builder; talked ODK/Unreal mechanics, pulling traits into the game as items, and token-gating challenges (while riding herd on his kids).
- Thrill (@ThrillsOnHood): project founder debriefing his weekend mint mishap and refund; mint stays paused pending a patch.
- Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee): headline guest and the show's highlight; delivered the abundance-mindset / "we're incredibly early" sermon and opened his DMs to the room.
- APESister Grace (@0xXiaoXiong): sang "Jasmine Flower" in English and Mandarin; won the giveaway raffle-style but requested a singing award instead.
- GambleWithLife (@gamblewithlife): won a Gimbos + prize in an 8-church tournament, then spent winnings sweeping Mimus; asked about a whale club.
- Merc (@Merkshots): first-timer, chatted traits and "sit with liquidity and wait" sniping philosophy.
- JayVegas (@JayVegas24): weed-strain color and the "Dennis Rodman was the first NFT" theory at the close.
- Uncle Mac (@Unclemac): genuinely lost track of what day it was; dubbed "the Doctor Strange of Web3."
- BuckdUp (@buckd_up): 1/1 holder, Bert's "twin," and Uncle Mac's volunteer human clock.
- Shag (@Shag2684): under the weather; clocked out at 9 PM ("it's my bedtime").
- DfiAddict (@DfiAddict): pitched Mimu-sized parkour gates and closed with "focus only on what you can control."
- BHarry (@bharry319): sniped clean Mimus and a signed VFriends gopher; relayed that his wife and son geeked out over Gary being in the room.
- Mente (@MenteJodido)*: chief agitator of the beanie-gang bit and the closing roll-call/rap.
Worth a full listen
- [1:38:58]–[2:07:18] — Gary Vee's full drop-in. The show's highlight, and the paraphrases lose the cadence; the abundance-mindset riff, the 1978 comic-con analogy, and the closing plea to "clap it up for people and then go focus on your shit" hit harder in his own voice.
- [47:45]–[49:15] — The world-build brainstorm. The naked-beach / black-light-cave / laser-tag riff between HYPE, Bert and Mikey is the room at its most gleefully unhinged, and it's where the actual game features get half-decided.
- [1:17:24]–[1:22:00] — Grace's performance. A genuine live vocal in two languages, plus the backstory on the song — a nice tonal break from the sniping.
