What Makes Someone A Good Person?

TL;DR

Highlights

[14:07] The monotone bit takes over the room. Burning Bush announced he was "recovering" from an earlier Space that was too animated, and delivered his entire introduction in a flat, medicated calm — then proceeded to police everyone else's energy, including Sho's voice inflection [16:40]. Chicken Wizard asked how low he'd have to go to match. The bit survived, on and off, for most of the hour.

[17:47] Yot returns from his "temporary rug." Back from his first vacation in two years, Yot reported that a community member dumped their FUGs and told someone else it was because they got spooked that the founder went on holiday. His conclusion: he has successfully CTO'd his own project. Donny Ðoge's addendum — as a founder, you're not allowed to be human [19:14].

[21:27] Super's answer: honoring promises. He'd sat with the question overnight and kept his first instinct: it's tempting to say things and throw them out there, but following through on what you said you'd do is the component that stuck. Sho followed with the fruits of the spirit, plus integrity, honesty and kindness [23:19] — and Burning Bush's daughter got a surprise pop quiz on the list, nailing self-control, peace and love [24:46].

[25:16] Burning Bush on your word, and the cost of breaking it. Money, NFTs, a favorite team — all of it comes and goes, but you only break your word once, and the repair is five steps forward, ten back. He landed on consistency as the real tell: the same person week in and week out, regardless of how the day went.

[36:27] Celeste on empathy, told through a cigarette. On an evening walk she passed two men smoking in a parked car, and one of them quietly pulled his hand back inside as she went by — no request, no audience, just courtesy. She built the rest of her case from there: giving up a seat, staying patient with her team, and refusing to judge anyone by their PFP price [1:16:40].

[45:49] Cadarn: goodness has no hidden motive. He argued you don't get to declare yourself good — it's the impression you leave on others. Kindness done as a deposit against future kindness isn't kindness; if you're keeping score, you'll end up feeling the world is against you the moment nobody shows up for you.

[50:20] Slick Ric, fresh off a five-hour drive and a blown tire. His version is simpler: actions. Am I walking what I'm talking? He also made the case for just being yourself, with Burning Bush as exhibit A of a personality nobody else is running right now. Burning clarified for the record that the weekend Burning Bush is unhinged; weekday Burning Bush is medicated into a workable stasis [52:43].

[53:23] "How long until you can call it?" Burning's question split the room. Donny said five minutes. Sho argued for more time and for patterns over single bad days [1:04:53]. Jose pointed out you never know what's behind the PFP [1:02:24], Tim said what turns him off isn't a different belief but someone trying to convert him to theirs [1:01:13], and Yot drew the line between having a bad day and being a bad person [1:12:58].

[1:19:41] Chicken Wizard on patience as the root. He traced it to a summer with his aunt where a Buddhist monk mostly just wanted to play games with him — and from that, the idea that love, kindness and care all stem from patience. Sho cheerfully claimed her one exception: she gets impatient when someone monologues for twenty minutes while ten people are waiting to talk [1:26:20], which Chicken Wizard immediately read as shots fired.

[1:30:48] Papii, jet-lagged on a balcony in Portugal, keeps it to one line. A good person considers others — the balance between what you do for self-gain and what you do for everyone else, measured in small things like whether you speed up or slow down at a crosswalk. Sho asked whether she still gets points for speeding up; Papii ruled that you only get points if you actually hit somebody, with a bonus for FUGs [1:32:39].

[1:39:39] Maha on the vibes, then and now. He thinks NFT expectations are healthier and people are better educated, but he's nervous about the next wave arriving with no on-ramp — so the work is educating and keeping people safe. Sho and Burning Bush went a few friendly rounds over whether 2021 vibes are something to bring back, before revealing to a startled Maha that they're actually related and have to arrive at family reunions in separate cars [1:41:48].

[1:46:24] Cadarn's closer. Character is like smoke — you can't hide it for long. And the answer to "when do you stop trying?" is: when the other person's toxicity starts rubbing off on you. Sho backed it with a story about a group she joined eight years ago, and the friends who had to sit her down and point out who she was turning into [1:47:31].
