Finding your Kyara. All things Macarune
Host: Sho (@AgogoKaren), with co-hosts Superhighgasfees (@SHGFees) and Yummy The Artist おいしい (@Yummy_TheArtist) · Thu, Sep 24 2026 · 1:54:15 · ~13 speakers
TL;DR
- A post-reveal community hang for the Macarune collection, built around the Japanese idea of a kyara — the character that represents you. Sho explained it up top [7:53]; Yummy gave the fuller version at the close [1:29:32].
- Almost nobody in the room had "found" theirs yet, including Mango [15:11] and Yummy himself — Super is chasing a nearly-naked one listed at 69 ETH [9:20], BEASTfitHUSTLER pulled his pirate on reveal and is set for life [1:02:07].
- Mango shared the web2 numbers: ~106k TikTok followers and 30k+ on Instagram after a year and a half of posting into the void [34:05]. Giphy is next now that traits are public.
- Yummy teased an art competition starting "maybe this weekend," with multiple categories (line art, pixel, 3D) [50:57], plus a future lore-focused Space — he estimates 16 hours to get through all of it [1:06:44].
- Optic offered to make free PSA-style slabs for anyone who DMs him a token ID [38:11], which immediately spiraled into half-shell smack talk.
- The last 15 minutes turned into a Japan travelogue from Red and Yummy that had nothing to do with NFTs and was arguably the best part.
Highlights
[7:53] — What a kyara actually is. Sho opened by defining the term: Japanese shorthand for "character," the one that connects with you and that you're drawn to in return. Some people spend their whole life looking. She credited Yummy's telling of the story for bringing her to tears, then promptly handed the mic around.
[18:47] — Super's Kyara is a naked one with a crown. Super explained his habit of hunting the trait-less piece in every collection he loves: it represents trying to be totally himself in the space, vulnerability included. The one Macarune with nothing but a crown sealed it — the crown reads, to him, as proof that being open is a win. Sho, deadpan: "here I'm taking it in a whole different direction, going, oh, it's just a naked, you like your naked" [21:30].
[28:05] — Chicken Wizard on who actually carries a project. A genuinely good monologue: a founder can push whatever they want, but without community it's one person shouting into the wind. A thousand voices shouting and somebody notices. He used Pokémon as the case study — obscure, even villainized by parents early on, and it grew because kids and community loved it, not because of announcements. Sho then fat-thumbed the laughing emoji instead of the heart and spent the next thirty seconds apologizing.
[29:41] — Yummy on why the holder base looks like this. He described deliberately avoiding the "alpha group / call channel" route in favor of handpicked collectors, artists and founders — "a flash of the pan" was what he wanted to avoid. His verdict on the result: his timeline has never been happier, and he scrolls it and almost cries.
[31:42] — The trading thing. Mango observed he'd never seen this much peer-to-peer trading in a community — back in 2022 you needed a third-party escrow site because nobody trusted anybody. Here people are swapping willy-nilly on trust and nothing bad has happened yet. Sho credited the fact that most of the room has been around each other for years.
[34:05] — A year and a half of posting into nothing. Mango walked through the web2 grind post-incubator in Japan: reels and reels with zero interactions, telling themselves "one day we're gonna hit the algorithm." Eventually one hit and dragged all the old videos up with it. Now: ~106k on TikTok, 30k+ on Instagram, with Giphy finally unblocked post-reveal.
[42:46] — 97 hat traits, and the plan to make them real. Yummy's biggest design gripe is collections that ship 10,000 pieces with 50 traits. Macarune is 2,000 pieces with ~97 hats. He and Red are lifelong goofy-hat wearers — it gets you upgrades and free stuff, he claims — and the long-term dream is fabricating the hats so unicorn-hat people and dragon-hat people can find each other at conferences.
[47:21] — ZET came up specifically to bust Sho for being too generous. He'd given her an LT3 with music notes because "you give more than anyone, so you deserve some love," went off to do work, came back to his wallet and found she'd sent him something back. "She just couldn't leave it alone." His threat to re-send it again was met with a firm no [48:48].
[56:16] — The half shells get graded a PS1. BeeCuzFuture's Viking helmet prompted Optic to note he's mercifully not wearing a wizard hat this time; BeeCuzFuture threatened to burn half shells the next time Lux comes out; ZET asked whether he could slide into Optic's DMs for a WYSI slab, assuming jealousy would prevent it. Optic's counter-offer: he'll make it, but it might be a PS1 grading. ZET, unbothered: "still worth more than any half shell."
[1:10:52] — Beast's theory of one-of-one pairs. BEASTfitHUSTLER laid out how he actually collects: not rarest traits, but tiny two-piece sets that only exist twice in a collection — the only two flannels with no headwear (he has both), and a puffer-and-bandana pair with the colors inverted. He owns one, the twin is near the floor, and he wants them side by side because they look like brothers. Yummy was floored: "I think he knows my collection more than I know my collection" [1:12:40].
[1:18:15] — Piff's Lumi. PiffsPeak introduced his purple wizard, Lumi, who has already been on his first adventure walking a town in Japan looking for his staff, and who is now asking the community where he should go next. Yummy said this interactive, build-as-you-go lore is exactly what he'd hoped for instead of handing everyone a finished story [1:19:43].
[1:40:26] — Japan, as told by two country boys. Red got the floor for what became the emotional close of the Space: colleagues passing out at dinner from alcohol intolerance and rallying thirty minutes later; a salaryman asleep in a bush whom nobody robs or judges because he clearly earned it; a man diving into a closing train and losing a sneaker to the door while strangers hauled him in; 50,000 people crossing an intersection in silence. Red, who says crowds normally make him freak out, found it peaceful. Yummy's postscript at [1:50:14]: incredible toilets, no trash cans anywhere, no trash anywhere either, and coins stacked at roadside shrines that nobody touches.

Who said what
- Sho (@AgogoKaren) — host. Opened with the kyara explainer, told the story of her cowboy PFP (originally a sapie, later a plushie), kept offering her own wallet up for trades, and repeatedly told Yummy to go to sleep.
- Yummy The Artist おいしい (@Yummy_TheArtist) — artist and founder, joining from a hotel room on roughly two and a half hours of sleep a night for a week. Talked design intent (97 hats, correctly-wrapped kimonos, a background color eyedropped from his own Bora Bora photos), the deliberate anti-alpha-group mint, and the plan to keep lore open-ended for holders to fill in.
- Superhighgasfees (@SHGFees) — co-host and the room's most dangerous window shopper. Spent the back half calling out token IDs live (#507 double wizard, double samurai, poncho-and-sombrero) and admitted his own kyara had shifted since the Space began [1:32:06].
- Mango (@MayanMango) — co-founder, still looking for his own kyara. Brought the socials numbers and the 2022-vs-now trading comparison; his heritage is behind the mariachi suit and the Latino traits.
- RED (@Red_Howdy) — Yummy's lifelong friend, fresh off 18 holes, generally either "bowed up or in bed." Delivered the Japan stories that closed the Space.
- Optic (@beatsbyoptic) — offered free slab art to anyone who DMs a token ID; diagnosed himself with collector's addiction via the fishing hat trait.
- Chicken Wizard (@ChickenWizardX) — traded into his near-kyara, named it Puff the Maca Dragon [1:15:16], and gave the room's best argument for community-over-founder.
- BEASTfitHUSTLER (@BEASTfitHUSTLER) — called his pirate before reveal and got it; the resident trait-pair analyst.
- ZET (@Meta_ZET) — brought the energy and the gift-giving standoff with Sho; refused to accept the half shells as legitimate collectibles.
- PiffsPeak (@RealPiffsPeak) — turned his purple wizard Lumi into an ongoing, community-voted adventure series.
- BeeCuzFuture (@BeeCuzFuture), Jose (@Yoshi_3000), Pengy Peng (@YesImPudgy) — dropped in to say the art's great, trade stories, and in Jose's case absorb the group chat's threats over his geisha.
Worth a full listen
- [1:40:26]–[1:53:47] — Red and Yummy on Japan. The salaryman in the bush, the lost sneaker in the train door, the untouched shrine money, and Yummy's "Japanese depression" on getting home. Genuinely warm, completely off-topic, and the summary can't carry Red's delivery.
- [1:01:37]–[1:14:41] — Beast and Yummy going trait-for-trait through the collection. Half collector methodology, half live shopping show, ending in Mac Daddy, Daddy Mac and Captain Mac Sparrow.
- [53:45]–[59:07] — The half-shell stretch. BeeCuzFuture's Viking helmet upgrade, the burn threat, and Optic quoting a PS1 grade with a straight face.
