The Bush is Burning! Why Spaces Matter

TL;DR

Highlights

[12:20] The actual thesis. After ten minutes of fugger jokes and hardback turtles, Burningbush pulled up his notes and made the case: Spaces are one of the few places a community actually hears a team. Voice is harder to fake than a tweet, founders who take unscripted questions signal they aren't anonymous rug-pullers, mints and reveals land harder live, and recurring shows build inside jokes and lore that give an IP personality. He credited recent Regen sales directly to Spaces and said he'd bet every dollar he owns on it.

[15:58] Sho's honest answer breaks the premise. Asked whether she'd ever attended a Space before buying, Sho said she never went to one until about a year ago — she bought Quirkies off Poppy's posts alone, and bought twenty LT3 a week after mint without ever hearing Super speak. Burningbush, who'd just claimed 70%+, was visibly recalibrating. "That explains your wallet activity since then" [16:11].

[18:00] Dan on the bullshit detector. Dan framed it as a retention mechanism rather than an acquisition one: hearing the founder is what makes you hold. His own first NFT was from comic artist Ethan Brewerton, a purchase he lost sleep over the night before — and he's been rugged exactly once, by a project called Broken Sea, where he held the rarest token right up until the team disappeared.

[21:25] Why Yummy is the proof. Burningbush used Yummy as the case study for the whole argument: he'd never be talking about that project positively without having actually met the guy in Spaces, because the posts alone wouldn't carry it. Sho took credit for the introduction, accurately.

[40:28] AC TM's counterpoint. The most substantive pushback of the night, delivered calmly: NFTs have existed across a growing number of chains for years, and Spaces have touched a tiny fraction of that volume. She also noted that community membership overlaps heavily — small clusters of people migrating together between projects with similar vibes — and that she's watched traders buy 50, 100, 150 at a time, numbers conviction buyers can't offset. Tim and Burningbush both changed their answers on the spot [41:55].

[52:10] Hot seat battle: AC vs Tim. AC's hot take was "buy what you like." Tim took the chair to disagree — most things in the space now are rugs that happen immediately, so don't buy until you know more. AC came back to clarify she wasn't talking about investment at all, just purchase [55:18]. Then she hit the soundboard, and the room reacted as though she'd desecrated something.

[53:30] Woof's line. Given the floor and refusing the 30-second clock, Woof delivered the tidiest formulation of the night, followed immediately by a live-laugh-love coda that the room correctly identified as biceps-tattoo material.

[59:15] Bagz on the hot seat. First-time speaker, full intro treatment, and he used his 30 seconds to explain he'd lost his main account to suspension, came back reluctantly, and is no longer minting new projects — just vibing with communities that stuck around. "My last bags got empty, so right now I'm empty bags." Sho sent him a Macaroon before the applause finished [1:01:22].

[1:28:08] The accidental thesis statement. Sho got her UI stuck on the soundboard panel and needed talking through the magic-wand button. Burningbush turned it into a sermon: here is someone who co-hosts massive spaces with Gary V on stage and can't hide a panel, and that's exactly the point — all you have to be able to do is mute, unmute, and say something worth hearing.

[1:46:11] BRAINPASTA's 30 seconds. Detroit, skateboarding, street art, schizophrenia, glitch art and painting, into NFTs in 2020 as an auctioneer, present for Bored Apes, Quirkies and Cool Cats. Jed followed up [1:48:39] with a memory of meeting him at De Stefano's with his sketchbook — "you could tell an artist's hands."

[2:13:16] Yummy on deliberate misprints. A trading-card collector since '93, Yummy built Easter eggs into his collection the way miscut and misprinted cards command premiums — not in the art (he stays pixel-perfect) but hidden in the metadata. One person has found one so far. Jed, to Sho's audible disgust, pulled the grail misprint.
