Dreams That Stayed Dreams

TL;DR
- Super opened with the prompt he'd been chewing on all day: dreams you once organized your life around that quietly became something else. His was going pro at skating — ten years on the board, abandoned around 22, and, in his telling, no regrets.
- The room landed on a shared conclusion: a dream that stays a dream isn't automatically a loss. Chicken Wizard and Sho both arrived at the same place from very different roads.
- The Space became an unofficial after-party for the earlier Macaroons Space with Yummy The Artist, whose Japan stories took over the middle hour — subways you can hear a pin drop in, ancient hillside inscriptions, and the moment an older Japanese man fell in love with a drawing and effectively named the character.
- Sho gave a short, blunt endorsement of Macaroons (minting Friday), framed entirely around the people rather than the art.
- Super laid out his thesis on Web2-first brand building — pillows, TikTok, familiarity before mint — as the on-ramp for whoever comes back to NFTs next.
- It ended, as these things do, with the room staging an intervention about Super's phone battery.
Highlights
[9:11] The premise, and the skateboard. Super set the topic and immediately went first: he started skating at twelve, took it seriously for a decade, had the crew, was genuinely on track. Then he looked closer at the industry and decided the life on offer wasn't the one he wanted — the injuries, the politics, and the fact that the money was concentrated in "the top like point oh one percent."
[13:26] Realizing it in real time. Working through it out loud, Super landed somewhere he hadn't planned: it was never really about skating. A skateboard was a paintbrush, the world was the canvas, and what he actually loved was making something out of nothing — which is precisely what he's doing now cutting pillow videos for TikTok. He admitted mid-sentence that he knew he'd figure something out by talking about it.
[17:33] The Macaroons after-party. Super and Sho spent a while glowing about the earlier Space with Yummy, where every name, trait and base turned out to have a reason behind it. Sho's pitch for the replay was characteristically unpolished: she's not trying to boost her own stuff, she doesn't care about her stuff, but go listen to the story.
[24:57] Japan, from the inside. Yummy described crowded Tokyo subways where you can hear a pin drop, a country with no trash cans because everyone carries their own trash, and a man who barely clipped his shoe and nearly went to the ground apologizing — "like he just like dishonored his entire family and for generations." Nighttime karaoke bars, he noted, run on entirely different rules; there you feel like you're in a pinball machine.
[31:17] Words of wisdom, allegedly. Yummy climbed to the top of the torii-gate mountain, pulled out Google Translate, and braced himself for profundity carved into centuries-old stone. What he got back was, roughly, you should leave her, bro. He remains unsure whether the ancients or the app were messing with him.
[35:26] Sho's endorsement, stripped to the bone. She shilled Macaroons for exactly thirty seconds — minting Friday, not a cash grab — and then explained her actual filter: she follows people, not projects. Poppy, Yummy, Super. The art being cute is a bonus.
[36:24] Familiarity as the Trojan horse. Super made his case that if people trickle back into NFTs, they'll go where they already recognize something — a TikTok they've seen, a pillow they already own. He told the story of a friend who came straight from a TikTok video into the hate beast Discord and learned MetaMask on the way in, and argued that projects building Web2 familiarity before mint are doing the space a favor.
[43:54] The birth of a name. Yummy said he's created hundreds of characters in his life, but this was the first time he watched one be born in front of him — an older man in an Osaka alleyway, his wife hugging him, the whole thing untranslatable. Mango's brother put it plainly: the guy's locked in, you can't change the name now. Macaroon forever.
[47:41] The astronaut defense. Asked if moving to Japan was a dream that would stay one, Yummy said probably not — he'd buy a house there if he semi-retires. Along the way he explained that he never tells strangers he's a veterinarian, because saying it on a plane produces a queue in the aisle. He tells them he's a rocket scientist instead.
[55:23] Chicken Wizard brings it home. He shared the dream he doesn't usually talk about: he wanted to be a game concept artist, and his dad steered him hard away from it — the standard "you'll never make money in that." He described it as a lasting absence. But he's drawing again on the iPad, and that same absence is what drove him to build a platform where other artists can show their work and grow communities. "Not every dream that stays a dream is a bad thing," he concluded — then signed off with "I'll lay my egg there."
[59:56] The battery intervention. Super announced he was "chilling" at 23%. Sho compared it to a quarter tank of gas and near-panic; Chicken Wizard proposed buying him a dock station; Sho reported she has already given him several things. The nightstand was mentioned. Nothing was resolved.

Who said what
- Superhighgasfees (@SHGFees) — host. Set the topic and modeled it with his own decade in skating, then argued the title only sounds sad. Also made the case for Web2-first brand building as the path back into NFTs.
- Sho (@AgogoKaren) — co-host. Kept nudging people toward the Macaroons replay, explained she backs people over projects, and offered the closing frame: reasons and seasons.
- Yummy The Artist (@Yummy_TheArtist) — the center of gravity for most of the hour. Japan travelogue, Macaroons origin story, and a quietly moving account of watching a character get named by a stranger. Also: veterinarian, reluctantly.
- Chicken Wizard (@ChickenWizardX) — arrived late and delivered the thesis of the Space: the concept-art career that never happened, and the artist platform that exists because of it.
Worth a full listen
- [24:57] – [34:55] — Yummy's Japan stretch. The shoe-bowing story, the torii gate history, the 4 a.m. stranger who led him up ladders into a hidden karaoke bar, and the advice to think in 3D when navigating Tokyo because the shop you're looking for might be forty floors either direction. Summary can't carry the pacing.
- [43:54] – [47:10] — The Macaroon naming. Yummy says there aren't English words for it, and then spends three minutes getting close anyway.
- [55:23] – [58:09] — Chicken Wizard's account of being pushed off the artist path, and Super immediately recognizing it as the exact thing he'd opened the Space with. The two halves of the conversation clicking together.
