Re:Building Together EP 339 — Wayback Wednesday
Host: CEELOS (@CEELOSFIGG) with co-hosts Baked (@Bakedmetax) and ValerieKates (@valeriekates_) · Wed, Sep 30 2026 · 1:10:36 · 6 speakers
TL;DR
- No scheduled Wayback topic, so the room free-associated into childhood: learning to read, recorder ribbons, Furbies, and a long detour through toys that were recalled for maiming children.
- Re:Games #2 is tomorrow in the Otherside, 7–8pm ET, games built by Dino, run by Sal and zGhostin — a claimable badge for showing up, plus a raffle prize for anyone repping a Regen avatar.
- zGhostin listed the likely lineup: oddball, capture the flag, bingo, red light/green light, and a two-team robot fight.
- Pillow (Triple B) came up and explained his Otherside music festival build — DJ sets, themed events, campsites, a Ferris wheel, and eventually a skate park — and offered to throw a community night with a crowd-sourced setlist.
- zGhostin revealed he'd already floated that exact idea up the chain, so the Regen festival is effectively in motion.
- Week ahead per CEELOS: Thursday AI news with a tweaked format (each host brings a story), Friday People Over Pictures, Saturday Creation Corner in Lisa Frank style.
Highlights
[02:04] The intro that would not end. Val's Android fought the intro track ("Hold on. Have to put it on like wide spectrum"), and the room got several uninterrupted minutes of Dr. Dre before the music simply vanished. Baked, at [07:16]: "Well that was an abrupt end there, Val." Val, unbothered: "Now we're doing words here."
[08:03] "Do you remember what it was like to learn to read?" Val's opener turned into Baked's memory of rewriting his ABCs at the kitchen table for bad grades, and the specific dread of popcorn reading — where the friend who also hated reading would scan the room and call on whoever was least ready [09:07]. Val, meanwhile, learned Spanish from the Mexican side of her family by refusing to speak it, absorbing mainly the curse words and La Llorona [09:48], and was motivated later by spelling bees Baked assumed only existed in movies.
[11:58] Recorder ribbons, the original flex. Elementary school required the recorder, and finishing a song earned a ribbon to tie on it. Baked finished with five of fifteen while the preppy kids walked around fully decorated. His summary of his own range: he could rock out some Hot Cross Buns.
[14:33] Furbies, demonic and expensive. Val still has a miniature one boxed; Baked has seen them priced at $300 while vintage hunting, and remains unsettled by any toy whose eyes open when you sit it up. Val's contribution, helpfully: put two Furbies together and they start squawking at each other.
[15:33] Toys from the era of natural selection. Baked described the Die Cast Factory — a little home foundry for melting metal and casting car bodies, marketed to ages 8 and up. Val ran the research in real time at [19:23]: Sky Dancers, 8.9 million recalled after 150 reported injuries including scratched corneas, broken teeth and a broken rib; the snack-time Cabbage Patch doll with a motorized mouth that ate hair and fingers; clackers; magnets kids swallowed. Baked, looking at a small plastic Barbie with wings, was unconvinced it could break a rib.
[23:42] The sponsor read that wasn't. CEELOS returned mid-toy-recall, misread "Polly Pocket" as "Pocket Universe," and delivered a full unsolicited ad for a browser extension before landing it: "Rebuilding Together is not brought to you by Pocket Universe. I don't use it, but I heard it's good."
[25:15] Mid-space reset and tomorrow's plan. Re:Games #2 in the Otherside, 7pm ET, games built by Dino, hosted by Sal and zGhostin, with Baked recording and attempting a Discord stream. The badge is for showing up, not winning — a distinction CEELOS confirmed carefully at [40:53]. zGhostin added at [31:23] that Regen holders repping the avatar go into a raffle for the biggest prize.
[29:05] Two guys facing a wall. CEELOS and Woof, both admitted Otherside normies, pre-planned their performance: "we'll be the guys like that are facing the wall that keep bumping into it, going, where are we? Where are we?" Later, on travel pods that may eventually carry cargo, Baked found his calling at [39:06]: "You're telling me that I can be a trucker in web three."
[47:21] Pillow arrives. The Otherside DJ's opening contribution to a conversation about a co-owned NFT Val described as an unfortunately shaped hat: "I have the penis uh shaped hat as the alpha, just to let you know."
[53:57] The virtual music festival. Pillow laid out his ODK build — campsites, a Ferris wheel, stages, hidden areas gated behind puzzles — and the résumé behind it: nine years working festival security across the UK, eight months on the road at a stretch, twelve-hour shifts and then straight out to the shows, roughly 700–800 artists seen. His first event there was a Mac Miller tribute with album covers hung through the woods on the walk to the stage; then Blink-182; then a Bored Ape mint party with a tropical island and the logo as the dance floor.
[1:02:29] The Regen festival, start to finish in four minutes. zGhostin floated a Regen festival, CEELOS compared it to the Creep Fest DJ nights that were his most-logged Discord hours ever [1:02:45], Baked reminded everyone a skate park is on the roadmap because he knows exactly how to get CEELOS in the door [1:03:26], and Pillow offered a community night built from crowd-requested songs [1:04:48]. Then zGhostin dropped the punchline at [1:06:18]: he'd already talked to Pillow and already asked up the chain.

Who said what
- Baked (@Bakedmetax) — ran most of the episode: opened the show, carried the childhood-toys thread, and handled the Otherside onboarding explainer for anyone still at level three (he is also at level three). Will be recording Re:Games #2.
- ValerieKates (@valeriekates_) — DJ'd the intro, supplied the day's only actual prompt ("do you remember learning to read?"), and did live research on every recalled toy in American history. Plans to borrow a laptop and show up as a Regen tomorrow.
- CEELOS (@CEELOSFIGG) — host; arrived mid-toy-recall, ran the mid-space reset, delivered the week's schedule, and volunteered himself as tomorrow's most enthusiastic Otherside beginner. Wants a skate park, a basketball game, and a GTA mode.
- zGhostin (@zGhostin) — the Otherside authority in the room: level 60 (currently avatar-locked by a bug and facing Re:Games as a default Voyager), laid out the game list and prize structure, and revealed he'd already set the Regen festival in motion.
- Pillow (Triple B) (@BillyBoyBeats) — Otherside DJ and festival builder; explained MML, his ODK music festival, and the themed events behind it, and offered to host a community night. Notes that Web3 runs on American time, which for him means 1am.
- Woof (@WoofArmyXX) — dropped in between work and the gym, established that bingo is an old people's game, and volunteered for wall-bumping duty.
Worth a full listen
- [13:28] – [23:00] — The recalled-toys rabbit hole, with Val reading injury statistics aloud while Baked refuses to believe a plastic flying doll broke anyone's rib. The stats do most of the work.
- [53:32] – [59:34] — Pillow's uninterrupted account of building a virtual festival and the nine years of real-world festival security that inspired it. The detail about Mac Miller album covers hung through the woods on the walk to the stage doesn't survive summarizing.
- [1:02:29] – [1:07:24] — An idea proposed, endorsed by the whole room, and revealed to already be underway, all inside five minutes. A good snapshot of how this room works.
