Re:Building Together EP 330 — How Do You Stay Motivated
Host: CEELOS (@CEELOSFIGG) with cohost ValerieKates (@valeriekates_) · Date: Mon, 21 Sep 2026 · Duration: 1:33:33 · 7 speakers
TL;DR
- Episode 330 of the daily show took on motivation — the systems people build for it, the days it disappears, and what pulls it back.
- ValerieKates laid out 20 years of small ADHD-friendly strategies (halve the goal, schedule the fun, celebrate the streak) and committed the room to making vision boards together on Saturday [40:35].
- CEELOS was candid about a down year — a long skate injury, lost content momentum, and the promise he made his daughter that he intends to keep regardless.
- Jed offered a public apology to CEELOS, Val and Baked for not showing up enough for the show, and refused every off-ramp they handed him [1:00:59] / [1:02:23].
- A long stretch on chains, distribution and royalty-sharing: Simple Farmer's free intern drops, the Robinhood ecosystem, Unvault/Divot, and why Ape Chain's ROI was measured in people.
- Housekeeping that matters: Regions' two-year anniversary is next Monday [1:31:04], and Lyss is planning one-year party spaces for both shows [1:29:35].
Highlights
[9:22] — Val's motivation is a stack of small hacks, not willpower. She described building strategies over two decades: it's easy when she's genuinely interested, so everything else gets scaffolding — scheduled fun to look forward to, and goals deliberately cut in half so that anything past two weeks a month becomes something to celebrate rather than a failure to hit 30/30.
[11:07] — CEELOS on the excuses he can hear himself making. Working out he's never managed; harder to admit, he's been finding reasons not to skate — same park, same street spot, transit across town. The one thing that overrides it: having told someone he'd be there. "Once I've agreed to meet with somebody, that's all the motivation I need, which is don't go back on your word."
[15:48] — "You said it, mean it." He told his daughter he's saving for the laptop she wanted for her 13th birthday even though that wasn't the plan, and he's not walking it back. The promise is the motivation, and the lesson for the kids is the point: say it, then follow through — or don't say it.
[20:12] — Bob Baker Day, and the hill. Not his crowd (costumed dogs, marionettes), but seeing people care out loud about something did the job. Then his son ran up a grass hill purely to roll back down it, and his 13-year-old followed. Find your fun, find your inspiration — filed away for the next flustered afternoon.
[29:55] — Baked's whole system: make the bed. Advice from his parents he never believed until he started doing it daily. "I can't have a successful good day if I get out of bed and start bad." Beyond that: structure, schedule, goals — "you guys know how it was when we first started doing the space, I don't work well without structure."
[38:32] — MYCENIX on vision boards and not overthinking them. After a morning that felt off, they went to Kobe clips, then asked the better question: how do you make that renewal consistent? Their answer is visibility — put what you want somewhere you can't avoid it. And if all you have is tomorrow's next step, that counts. Val immediately added it to Saturday's agenda; neither she nor CEELOS had ever made one.
[54:00] — Jed: the daily show is the hard part. He called doing daily spaces harder than being a founder or running a steakhouse, because you show up regardless of how you feel — including a week with four days of debilitating anxiety. He noticed long ago that when he talks about the real stuff he gets fifty DMs, and when it's a normal space he gets two or three, so he keeps putting it out there.
[1:00:59] — The apology. Jed said he'd seen CEELOS's spark dwindle and felt he'd been part of it by not showing up enough for a show that's run 330 consecutive days. CEELOS and Val both tried to hand him an out — schedules, the sheer number of spaces now — and he wouldn't take it: five or ten minutes is not an impossible ask. Val's counter was that the show exists in service of Web3 generally, and that he's welcome without the pressure of being there every day.
[1:07:51] — Distribution, finally working. Jed on the Simple Farmer intern giveaway: hundreds of five-to-six-hundred-dollar assets passed along by holders, Ryan Skyman giving out four, Tusk giving out a bunch. He said he doesn't remember a time in Web3 where he'd have bet on people re-gifting a free airdrop — and noted he'd be three apes richer if he had a dollar for every time Farmer says the word "distribution."
[1:24:07] — CyberThrone's three businesses. A first-time speaker closed the room out with his arc: a web dev business at university that made enough money to get him into trouble, a publishing business that the pandemic killed, and a third company now heading toward a collection launch. The voice in his head says push and one of them works — and what he wants at 50, 60, 70 is something he can point at and be proud of.

Who said what
- CEELOS (@CEELOSFIGG) — host. Ran the topic and gave the most personal answer in the room: a down year, a skate injury he calls missing his therapist, a content habit where 70–75% never gets posted, and a promise to his daughter he's determined to keep. Also reminded everyone Regions hits two years next Monday.
- ValerieKates (@valeriekates_) — cohost. The systems person: halved goals, scheduled fun, celebration as fuel. Offered CEELOS practical reach advice on cleaning up his following, and framed the show's purpose as service to Web3 rather than metrics.
- Baked (@Bakedmetax) — short and effective: make your bed, build structure, hit your goals. No gripes, just wants more to do — and the gaming side with Ghost is starting up.
- MYCENIX (@Mycenix_NFT_) — dropped in on a rough morning, shared the vision-board method and a reframe that landed: the fight is mostly mental, the competition is only ever with yourself, and one answer for tomorrow is enough to start.
- Jed (@jed_131) — the longest contributor. Talked openly about anxiety and founder responsibility, apologized publicly for not showing up enough for the show, then took the room through distribution, chain culture, Unvault/Divot royalty sharing, and why he can't switch the sickness off.
- Lyss (@Lysss302) — joined mid-Swiffer to say the positivity she keeps seeing is what keeps her coming back, and volunteered to plan the one-year anniversary parties for both shows.
- CyberThrone (@0xCyberThrone) — first-time speaker, closing story of three businesses and the voice that says keep pushing.
Worth a full listen
- [59:15]–[1:05:04] — Jed's apology and the back-and-forth that follows. Two people trying to let him off the hook, one person declining, and Val's reframe of what 330 consecutive days is actually for. It plays better than it summarizes.
- [1:07:51]–[1:20:15] — the unbroken Jed monologue on distribution, Ape Chain, Robinhood, Unvault and royalty sharing. If you want the state-of-the-chains take with the reasoning attached, it's all here.
- [1:29:35]–[1:33:00] — the wind-down: anniversary planning, Jed explaining why the number 300 means something to Lyss (it involves the movie, and the kill scenes), Lyss countering with Derek Jeter, CEELOS admitting he recites Rocky lines at kids who won't sit through it, and Jed quietly sniping a region out of the Anvil while everyone was distracted.
