Who Is Behind The PFP? — The Day After the Exploit
Host: Lyss (@Lysss302), with cohosts Jed (@jed_131) and Sho (@AgogoKaren) · Sat 26 Sep 2026 · 2:46:28 · ~16 speakers
TL;DR
- The headline from the morning after the Magic Eden payment-processor exploit was how much got saved: a white hat scooped ~23,000 NFTs into safety and ate roughly $7.5–8k in gas doing it. It could have been a total wipeout. It wasn't.
- G-SPOT gave the space its emotional center: ten years sober in March, from three DUIs before 21 to a glass company, a restaurant stake, and eventually NFTs. Jed shared his own recovery story in return, and the room stayed with them.
- Papii walked through the Quirkies rescue minute by minute: 415 quirks, 700+ lings, inks — all frozen, floor price unchanged, one asset sold and recovered.
- Crono and Papii turned the second half into a working session on upgradeable contracts, transfer-validator "stop buttons," soft staking as a security layer, and whether founders should have the power to claw stolen assets back. Both said yes, loudly. Crono offered free help to any team that wants to build it.
- Gary Vaynerchuk dropped in for ~15 minutes on accountability, why he feels worst for the scammers, and why he's louder on crypto Twitter again — the most-reacted stretch of the entire Space.
- Jed opened with a live karaoke set (yes, "Country Roads") and a blunt reminder that this is NFTs, not life or death — then spent the next two hours proving the room can hold both.
Highlights
[10:26] Lyss opens the room after the karaoke set. Three tracks in — "NFTs, NFTs," Country Roads, and a third that Sho was informed she simply does not want to understand the words to — Lyss takes the mic and frames the Saturday format: grab a mic, tell us who's behind the PFP, holder or not. She also asks everyone in the Nor'easter's path to check on elderly neighbors.
[23:52] Jed on keeping NFTs in proportion. Asked for his karaoke song, Jed pivots into the day's thesis: don't let this ruin friendships, don't over-allocate. He puts his own risk-asset allocation at 5–6%, says it shouldn't exceed 10% past 30 ("unless you're like 21, then go all in, I don't care because I blew my net worth by the time I was 30 twice"), and notes that without the white-hat intervention the market could have been down 50–70%.
[42:36] G-SPOT tells the whole thing. Prompted for the "who's behind the PFP" question, he goes all the way back: sports, then arrests, three DUIs before 21, a sober-living halfway house that taught him "how to not be a bum," a kid on the way and an S10 truck as his entire net worth. He built a glass rack in the bed of that truck and started a glass company mid-COVID, marketing to high-end Birmingham neighborhoods with an ad offering to fix "these pesky bullet holes" — which got exactly the indignant comments he was hoping for, and made the business. Then a restaurant partnership he was glad to sell most of ("it almost killed me").
[50:46] Jed and G-SPOT compare notes on getting clean. Jed asks about the "clarity moment"; G-SPOT describes the pink-cloud trap — guys three months sober planning marathons and ministries when "you just need to focus on like being okay, breathing and being alive." Jed recounts his last day using, walking to the projects crying because he was done, and his sponsor's line: you spent twenty years losing trust, you can spend twenty earning it back.
[1:00:13] Sho and SLICK RIC add their own. Sho shares that her husband is twenty years recovered and a close friend is currently in his sixth rehab — and thanks G-SPOT for making the room feel like a meeting. At [1:07:46] SLICK RIC follows with his father's heroin addiction, his sister's, and his 19-year-old niece's death, landing on what he actually came up to say: sometimes you don't need advice, you just need to get it off your chest. He also tells Sho to stop apologizing for who she is.
[1:07:14] Jed calls for levity. "Hi, my name is Jed. I'm addicted to NFTs for six years. Especially ones that look like animals or are pixelated." He asks the room for help, then notes he's unlikely to get any, given the attendees.
[1:12:17] Crono makes the case for founders having a kill switch. He points out we insure our houses, cars, health and bank deposits, then hand six figures to a single seed phrase. With an upgradeable contract you can change the transfer-validator address to freeze all transfers, reassign tokens out of a thief's wallet, and build a claim mechanism. At [1:26:05] he also debuts node's "identity shield," which flags Discord impersonators across every server in the network rather than one at a time.
[1:29:51] Woof introduces the bread taxonomy. Calling in from an hour outside Morgantown, taking Meow, his wife, to her first college football game, Woof responds to SLICK RIC's description of Sho as "soft and warm like a buttermilk biscuit" with a correction: she's more of a day-old French baguette, and Jed is the day-old Italian loaf you buy for a penny. Sho accepts the ruling on the grounds that she likes baguettes.
[1:31:14] Gary Vaynerchuk on who he actually feels bad for. Asked what's on his mind, he lands on the scammers: "do you know how fucked up your soul needs to be to do something like that?" From there: accountability as a coping mechanism ("I should have fucking revoked that shit"), why he's louder on crypto Twitter lately, and a defense of his previous day's whatnot stream — getting beaten up for "stub toes in a world where we're trying to cure cancer." Jed offers that the space has far more good actors than bad; Gary agrees, with the caveat that anonymity does raise the bad-actor rate to maybe three or four percent — "not nine, not fifty."
[1:59:22] Papii's minute-by-minute of the Quirkies rescue. He woke at 7am, saw the chats, then watched the OpenSea activity tab roll like a money counter — "another hundred and something quirkies right in front of my eyes are just gone." A freeze function his dev had built weeks earlier let him lock 135 assets; five minutes later that same wallet dumped everything else it held. Final tally: 415 quirks, 700+ lings, 200–300 inks exploited, all frozen, exactly one sold and recovered, floor price unchanged. The work done weeks ahead of time is the reason the morning ended where it did.
[2:07:10] Papii on the control question. Asked whether anyone questioned a founder having that much power, he frames it as the government/police/military debate and says leadership isn't the problem, what's done with it is. He also notes Quirkies had Magic Eden blocked from the day he took over — "probably should have blocked this other thing, but who knew." A tangent at [2:20:14] establishes that the only real analogue to needing OpenSea support on a weekend is leaving church craving Chick-fil-A.

Who said what
- Jed (@jed_131) — cohost, opening DJ, and the room's designated hype/perspective valve. Ran the "it's just NFTs, you woke up today" throughline, shared his own twelve-year addiction and recovery, and by the end had added "lock the contract down" to his build list.
- Lyss (@Lysss302) — host. Kept the room moving, kept returning to revoke / Discord safety / node, and closed with three takeaways: help each other recover, find a home-base community, and don't sit alone with the heavy stuff.
- Sho (@AgogoKaren) — cohost. Named her own emotional week honestly, connected G-SPOT's story to her husband's recovery and a friend currently in rehab, and volunteered that Papii is the one person she'd hand a seed phrase.
- G-SPOT (@Timmygspt) — the space's centerpiece: sobriety, a glass business built out of a pickup truck, a restaurant he was glad to mostly exit, and how Ape Chain pulled him from meme coins into NFT communities.
- Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee) — dropped in mid-Space on accountability, gratitude, VeeFriends' next chapter (kids' books, comics, Comic Con), and why the long-term digital collectibles thesis still wins.
- Papii (@RealPapii) — Quirkies founder. Gave the definitive operational account of the rescue and made the case for upgradeable contracts and founder authority; teased a rebuilt staking UI with a monthly RWA reward pool.
- Crono (@Crono1000) — dev. Offered free help to any team with an upgradeable contract, explained transfer-validator freezes and token reassignment, and shipped node's cross-server identity shield.
- SLICK RIC (@richj530) — twice up, both times with weight: family loss to addiction, and a closing riff on finding the silver lining and the blessing behind the struggle.
- Burningbush (@BurningBush_eth) — building Regen Noir and blowing Dan's mind daily; offered the "hurt people hurt people" frame on the exploiter [1:49:30].
- Wizard1sgv (@wizard1sgv) — BTFD Rabbits storyteller, showed off a low-ranked Alien Wolf Studios regen pickup and got welcomed into the community.
- Woof (@WoofArmyXX) — en route to Morgantown, taking Meow, his wife, to her first college football game; established the official bread-based classification system for cohosts.
- Big Rugg (@ChiefNeckbone_), City of STONKS (@CityOfStonks), chazzgold.eth (@chazz_gold), Scotty, Donny Ðoge (@DogeDonny2013), Brrrbon (@Brrrbon_) — community voices on getting clipped for "a couple bucks," Hawaii's storm recovery, the 1989 San Francisco earthquake pulling a city together, Gary's DMs, Limp Bizkit, and a good trade made on reputation alone.
Worth a full listen
- [42:36] – [1:02:30] — G-SPOT and Jed's back-and-forth on addiction and recovery, with Sho joining at the end. Twenty minutes of unfiltered, unhurried honesty that no summary captures; the room clearly felt it.
- [1:31:14] – [1:45:25] — Gary Vaynerchuk's full segment, start to finish. The pacing, the shift from empathy for the scammer to a defense of his own record, and the Bills/Jets sign-off are worth hearing intact.
- [1:59:22] – [2:36:18] — Papii and Crono's working session, and the most directly useful stretch of the day for anyone running a project: what an upgradeable contract actually enables, why soft staking beats custodial staking, what happens once a stolen asset gets sold, and where the ethical line sits. Good listening before your next build session.
